27 Weeks

Today marks my 27th week of pregnancy.  I am really excited for this milestone because it means I’ve entered my Third Trimester.  If I were to delivery today the infant survival rate increases to 78%.    The past few weeks have been very difficult as has this whole pregnancy.  I’ve had some pre-term labor issues so every week is a milestone.

At 24 weeks I was attending the Project trade show in Las Vegas for work.   I was working in our booth for Karen London Jewelry.  Around 2:00 pm I started experiencing extremely painful contractions.   I’ve never had a real full contractions since I had Baines via C-Section.  The contractions were intense, lasting about a minute every four minutes.  I called my doctor and they recommended that I lay down and drink tons of water.   It was difficult to find a place at the trade show but I found a chair that I could recline in but it didn’t help.  The contractions continued for about 2 hours on and off.  That’s when my doctor’s office suggested I go to the nearest Labor & Delivery.  My coworker Kelli took me and by the time I was admitted the contractions had slow down.  While getting set up on the monitors I threw up and that made me feel so much better.   I initially thought it was because of the contraction pains but  I came to realize that I might have gotten food poisoning from the trade show food.  At the L&D I only had a few small contractions and they released me after about an hour.   Bixby was fine so I was relieved.

I had an appointment scheduled for the following Monday so my doctor didn’t make me come in any earlier once I returned home.   I had still been having contractions all weekend but nothing like Vegas.  When I got to my appointment Monday we went over all the details from the prior week’s events.   She checked my cervix and was worried it was too thin.  Plus I was still having too many contractions so she sent me to Labor & Delivery for monitoring and to run several tests to determine whether I was already in per term labor or just at risk.    From my urine sample they found out I did have a bladder infection that could have been aggravating my uterus and causing contractions.  I was monitored for about 2 hours and was having too many contractions.

They wanted to stop the contractions right away because once they start and get in a rhythm that’s when the pre-term labor can begin.   I was given a shot and a pill both aimed to stop the contractions.  The shot contains steroids just like inhaler for asthma.  It made me really shaky but it only lasted for about an hour.  That’s when the pill kicked in which would last for 6 hours.  Both worked to stop the contractions.   Once they were gone they had me stay for another hour just in case.

The only good part to the day was getting another ultrasound to check my cervix length.   The tech was really nice and did a full ultrasound.   We checked to make sure she was still a girl (which she is).   It was so cute because she was folded in half and her hands were playing with her toes.   She is a very active girl so it was fun to see her moving around.   Here are a couple images the tech printed me.  (PS my cervix was 4 cm long which they said was really good)

I had another appointment today and my doctor was happy that I made it to 27 weeks and how I am feeling.  She wants me to continue with the restrictions they put me on at L&D, no standing, bending, stretching, lifting, excessive walking, and over activity.   My belly is measuring about 2 weeks ahead which I guess is normal for a second baby.   She said it means I’m having a healthy baby.   Also I was surprised that I’ve only gained 19 lbs.  I could swear I’ve gained 35.  Haha    She said the weight gain was great considering they want you to gain at least 30.  But I’m sure I’ll make it there in these remaining 13 weeks.

Baby 2.0

I already feel like a neglectful mother to this new little person growing inside me but to be fair it’s also sucking away every brain cell I have left after Baines’ pregnancy.  I’ve been so scatter brained and overwhelmed.  I’m now 16 weeks along and finally I’m starting to feel like myself again.

This pregnancy was a surprise to Nicholas and I but especially my body.  I have been working out and getting extremely active 3 months prior and lost 12 lbs.  What better time to have another baby at the peak of my physical fitness.  I was taking a Cycling class at 24 hour fitness when I realized that I was late.  I had to jump off my bike and checked the date on my phone.  I waited until the next day to take the test, it was Easter morning and the stick said pregnant.  I already feel much healthier than I did the first time.  Maybe because I know what to expect and I’m ready for the aches and pains.

Starting around week 6 the nausea started.   Just like before it was All day sickness not just the morning.  It was actually worse at night.  I knew every day that around 3 o’clock it would hit me and I would struggle through my work day till I could go home and rest.   This time we decided to keep the pregnancy a secret till week 12.   It was so hard to hide how sick I was at work.   I could hardly eat, only drink sparkling water, and was really quite at my desk.  I finally had to break down and tell my boss just in case I had to run out of the office to barf.

We told our parent and siblings around week 8.  I bought Baines a shirt that said Big Sister.  Nicholas family caught on really quickly an we’re really excited.  My family on the other hand… They came to visit for a two week vacation and to help work on the house.  The first day they arrived Baines showed up wearing the shirt.  It took them about 45 min to realize.  My mom even was rubbing Baines tummy right over the Big Sister.  It was funny to sit there and want to say “Duh”.  Finally my sister-in-law Lindsay said “what does her shirt say, is that an announcement?”  My family was excited for us too and of course my mom cried.

Once 12 weeks hit I wasn’t too thrilled to tell everyone I was pregnant.  Mostly because I was so sick it was hard to show excitement at that point but Nicholas insisted and we posted this picture on Facebook and text our good friends to let them know first.    Since then I have been meaning to update the blog.  I wanted to start the blogging about this pregnancy like I did for Baines.  I love going back and reading the comparison between the two pregnancy.  They are surprisingly similar, emotionally and physically.    I’m going to make a promise right now that I will document this pregnancy too.   I love this little person so much already I need this help to remember all the wonderful experiences.

I was sitting on the bed last night with Baines kissing her feet and I got so excited that I’ll have another pair of feet to kiss.  Being a mother is so amazing and I’m lucky to have this opportunity.   We have our ultrasound scheduled for July 17th.  We’re excited to find out if well have another girl or a boy.

28 Weeks

This is my first week of my THIRD TRIMESTER! Its super exciting and really nerve racking. I cant believe how fast this pregnancy has gone. I feel so unprepared and we don't have much time to get ready. I'm trying to take it one day at a time. I know Baines is not going to arrive and demand that everything be perfect.

We had our follow up doctors appt Friday, after my blood work and ultrasound. My placenta has moved so now we can have a natural birth. So we really need to get signed up for birth classes. I don't have gestational diabetes, which is great news. Not that I thought I did but my coworker got it when she was pregnant and it really seemed like a pain. My Iron was low but its really common in pregnancy so I started taking iron supplements. My Doctor said its really important since I'll loose a lot of blood during delivery. She also prescribed me a new daily Asthma medication to take the rest of my pregnancy. She doesn't want me to have any more attacks. So hopefully it will do the trick.

My belly is growing like crazy, luckily most of my other body parts have stayed the same. All the girls in the office think its funny because my legs haven't gained any weight. They look so tiny under my belly.

I'm really starting to feel uncomfortable towards the end of the day. My legs are swelling up so I have to elevate them as much as possible. I went to a birthday party today in some cute gladiator sandals (see picture above). When I got home my feet were so swollen, I didn't think I could get them off! It was really sad. I had to take a picture of the marks the shoes left. I think those sandals will have to go into retirement for now.

This next week is going to be CRAZY. Tomorrow, I am leaving at 5:00am for Texas, its my last road trip (thank heavens). My co worker Veronica is coming with me but I know its going to be a challenge. Already its getting hard doing my daily routine, so showing sample on the road will be a difficult. Veronica will be the Hulk and lift everything but I'll still have to bend down to show samples. Also Nicholas leaves tomorrow for North Caroline again. It works out nice that we're both out of town at the same time but it puts a cramp in our schedule with the house construction. Larry, my father-in-law will be meeting with inspector so we can hopefully pour cement next weekend. Everyone cross your fingers!!!

Baby B is Beautiful!

We had another Ultrasound today to check if my placenta had moved. The ultrasound tech said it had but I’ll wait till Friday to hear what my OB has to say. So right now it looks like a natural birth is possible. I better get signed up for birth classes ASAP! We have been putting it off because Nicholas said “why waist the time if we have to have a c-section”.

We are defiantly still having a girl! She was really camera shy and had her arms crossed over her face so it was hard to get a good picture. She was also moving around a bunch and wouldn’t hold still. We got to see her little feet and she curled her toes. Also she has some hair growing on her head. Nicholas and I were both born with full heads of hair so I’m hoping she will too! I still think her lips are huge, just like Nicholas’. Already she looks so beautiful. She's put on weight since our last ultrasound so she looked more like a baby than Skeletor.

21 Weeks

So this week I am being a single mother. Nicholas is in North Carolina for a week working. I know I travel a lot and I’m sure he misses me but I REALLY MISS HIM. I had a doctor’s appt on Monday. Nothing special just my usual month follow up. Normally Nicholas is the only guy there but yesterday I was the only single girl. Everyone had their husbands with them. It was really weird, almost like the universe wanted me to miss him more. Then when I was sitting in the room waiting for the doctor to come in, I wished he was there. He always calms my nerves. He is usually full of funny jokes and wants to touch everything in the room. It drives me crazy but it’s funny seeing him mess with the birth control information diagrams. As most of you know he is still a 10 year old boy inside and can’t sit still. Not only is he comic relief but It’s really nice to have his input and comments. He really is so interested in the whole process.

During this appointment we reviewed the details from our Ultrasound. They took measurements to make sure that Baby B is growing just right. As you know I’m a glass is half empty kind of girl and was really nervous that something would be wrong. Fortunately everything looked great. Baines is growing just as she should. The only issue was my placenta, as I mentioned in a previous post, its located at the bottom of my uterus covering my cervix. This is called placenta previa, it would mean that I am unable to have a natural birth. My doctor was not that concerned because it generally moves as the pregnancy progresses. I will have another Ultrasound in a few weeks and if it hasn’t moved then we will start scheduling a C-section. I’m not worried about it yet, I’ll wait to see how things go before I stress out.

Not only do I miss Nicholas but the puppies do too! When he is gone both dogs are always on edge listening to every noise hoping it’s him. I’m usually in bed almost asleep before they give up on him coming home and join me. Last night both dogs sleep with me inside the pregnancy pillow. We have a king size bed and all they wanted to be right next to me. I think it’s because they want to be close to Baines, with that thought I didn’t mind. In fact they can cuddle with me and Baines any night.

12 Weeks

We had an appt with our OBGYN on Monday for a check up. First thing they do is weight me, I lost 10 lbs! I knew I was having trouble eating but thought I was eating enough. It makes sense because I was so sick for about 4 weeks. The doctor wasn’t concerned because my nausea is getting better. She also said “you’re going to be gaining that back with a vengeance soon!”

We also got another ultrasound to see the baby’s heart beat. She has trouble picking it up on the Doppler because of the baby’s position. I can’t believe how much the little thing moves in there. It looked like a Mexican jumping bean. No joke it was bouncing off the walls! That has to be from Nicholas because I never had that much energy. If it’s a sign to come, I’m sure I’ll get a lot of kicks to the ribs. Also on the ultrasound she noticed that the placenta was lower than normal. It could potentially be a problem later in the pregnancy but isn’t a concern until after 28 weeks. It would stop me from having a natural birth and would have to be C-Section. My doctor said it’s pretty common this early and generally moves as the baby grows. I really haven’t thought much about my birth plan yet but the thought of a C-section scared me.

9 Weeks

Here is our first picture of Baby “E”. To Nicholas dismay there is only one in there.
